Cherrey Ruled Out for Season With Injury
January 19, 2017 | Gymnastics
ATHENS, Ga. — Sophomore Georgia gymnast Gracie Cherrey has been ruled out for the remainder of the season as she heals from an ankle injury suffered in December.
Surgery has not yet been scheduled but will be necessary to repair Cherrey's injury.
"Obviously we're heartbroken for Gracie," said Georgia gymnastics head coach Danna Durante. "Even with this setback she continues to put her team first and is focused on being there for them throughout this season. She will undergo surgery at some point in the coming weeks and we will begin the process of getting her back to full strength for next season."
A native of Woodbury, Minnesota, Cherrey competed on the uneven bars 13 times as a freshman, posting a season-best score of 9.85. She also competed on beam four times in the first five meets of the 2016 campaign.
"I'm extremely disappointed to be out this season," said Cherrey. "That being said, I have complete confidence in our sports medicine staff to help me recover and be back on the floor wearing the 'G' and representing the University of Georgia as soon as possible. In the meantime, I will focus on rehabbing my ankle and supporting my team in any and every way possible."
