ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia defeated Cal State Fullerton 2-0 Sunday afternoon at the Turner Soccer Complex to improve to 2-1-1 on the season. Cal State Fullerton drops to 1-2-0.
"It was a job well done," Georgia head coach Billy Lesesne said. "We set out this weekend to get two victories, and you have to give the girls credit. Two very different games we played, but we got the job done. I'm proud of the team."
The game started with Georgia and Cal State Fullerton keeping the ball at midfield for much of the first 10 minutes of play, before the Bulldogs picked up the offense and continued to dominate much of the first half, outshooting the Titans 14-3 in those first 45 minutes of play.
Lauren Tanner put the Bulldogs on the board in the 32nd minute when she dribbled the ball down the pitch and found the back of the net, from outside the box.
In the 39th minute, Tanner, again, dribbled the ball down the field and crossed it to Marion Crowder, who took a shot that soared high.
After the half, Georgia and Cal State Fullerton evened the playing field. Twenty-four minutes into the second half Georgia took five shots to Cal State Fullerton's one.
Georgia secured the win after Kelsey Killean was tackled to the ground on a breakaway drawing a yellow card from Cal State Fullerton's Savannah Sloniger in the 77th minute. Her penalty kick found it's way to the back of the net, extending Georgia's lead to 2-0.
Georgia is now 2-0-1 at home this season.
"It's wonderful being at home," Lesesne continued. "Our daily goal is to protect our home. We try to do our best to perform well at home. Looking forward to heading to Auburn next weekend to play two very neutral teams and help prepare us for the SEC season."
