TULSA, Okla. — Sophomore Kennedy Shaffer's run through the NCAA Singles bracket came to an end on Saturday with a loss to sixth-ranked Luisa Stefani of Pepperdine at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
By virtue of reaching the quarterfinal round, Shaffer had already become Georgia's 31st all-time All-American. Additionally, Shaffer claimed the team lead in wins for the season, reaching 32 for the 2015-16 campaign.
Shaffer also led the team in dual match wins (20) and in match clinchers (seven).
"It was a really exciting tournament for me," said Shaffer. "Being an All-American is an absolutely unbelievable honor that i was fortunate enough to obtain. There's no better feeling than knowing that my hard work has paid off and my picture can go on the wall with all of the other past and present Georgia greats."
Shaffer lost her quarterfinal match to Stefani in two sets, dropping the first 6-1. She competed hard in the second, at one point tied 4-4, but she was broken to fall behind and Stefani then held serve to finish off a 6-1, 6-4 win.
"Overall, there are so many positive things to take away from this experience," added Shaffer. "I can't wait to see what else I can hopefully accomplish in the upcoming seasons. Nothing compares to being a Bulldog and I'm blessed to be able to fight for the place I love most."
The Rossford, Ohio native was the final remaining Bulldog competing, so the loss marks the end of the 2015-16 Georgia women's tennis season.
