ATHENS, Ga. --- Pachis Roberts scored a career-high 29 points to spearhead the Georgia Lady Bulldogs (8-5) to their largest margin of victory this season, a 78-43 win over the Western Carolina Catamounts (4-10) in Georgia's last non-conference game of the season Wednesday afternoon at Stegeman Coliseum.
Joining Roberts in scoring was Mackenzie Engram (14), Simone Costa (14) and Shanea Armbrister (13). It was the first time the Lady Bulldogs had four double-digit scorers since the BYU game earlier this season. Costa and Armbrister's scoring performance each registered as career highs in points as well.
"We needed to see the ball go into the basket," Georgia head coach Joni Taylor said. "We spent the last few days going over some things. We needed to cover it for ourselves, and it was really good to see them play hard and get the reward after the final alarm went off."
At the half, Georgia held a 19-point advantage over Western Carolina, as the Lady Bulldogs shot 57.7 percent from the floor compared to the Catamounts' 33.3 percent slate. Costa already obtained her career high in points in the first half with 12, while Armbrister tied her mark with nine points. Roberts' 15 points led all scorers en route to her career night.
"We talked at halftime," Taylor added. "We have to put four quarters together. We are limited in numbers - I don't care. Play hard, establish good habits, and continue to embrace the process."
The Lady Bulldogs seemingly put the game out of reach coming out of the break, as they outscored Western Carolina 24-8 to strengthen the lead to 66-31. Roberts snatched a steal and took it all the way for a layup to go up by 36 points with a little over a minute remaining in the third quarter. The basket pushed Roberts past her previous career record of 25 points. Roberts finished with 11 rebounds to give her a double-double while she also grabbed three steals and two blocks.
Georgia converted 31 points off of 23 Western Carolina turnovers and had 17 fastbreak points. Georgia shot a commanding 56 percent from the floor and held the Catamounts to 33 percent shooting.
The Lady Bulldogs open up the Southeastern Conference schedule on the road against the Missouri Tigers on New Year's Day in Columbia, Missouri. The game is set for a 1 p.m. ET tip and will be televised on SEC Network.
