The Lady Bulldogs move to 7-4 overall this season, while Virginia improves to 8-2. It marked the first time since December 30, 2008, that Georgia dropped a home non-conference game, a streak of 61-straight games that stood as the best active streak in the NCAA.
"After we closed the gap, we turned it over too many times in a row and you just can't do that against really good teams," head coach Joni Taylor said. "They're going to capitalize on that, which they did, so every time we would make a run and try to close that gap, they would extend the lead and we would turn it over. Credit to Virginia--they're really good. They came in here with a game plan and executed it very well. It was a tough night for us."
Engram hit two 3-pointers while going 8-for-15 from the field en route to her 18 points. Sophomore Caliya Robinson posted her 14th straight game with double-figure points dating back to last season, finishing the night with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs got off to a slow start as the Cavaliers went on a 14-1 run to start the game and managed to build a 19-10 lead in the first quarter.
Virginia added to that advantage and stayed in control most of the remaining 10 minutes of the first half. Georgia was able to find a rhythm on offense and put up 14 second-quarter points with Engram leading the way. The junior put up eleven points and grabbed four rebounds in the first half, marking her sixth double-digit output of the season, as the Lady Bulldogs trailed 32-24 at the break.
The Cavaliers came out on fire in the second half, putting the lead in double digits by the end of the third quarter. Three Cavaliers scored in double figures to lead Virginia to a 66-43 victory over Georgia.
The Lady Bulldogs continue their homestand with a game against Samford on Thursday. The contest is slated for a 1 p.m. ET start on SEC Network+/WatchESPN.
