ATHENS, Ga. -- The Georgia gymnastics team held its third-annual Pumpkin Peek in front of several hundred fans on Saturday at the Suzanne Yoculan Gymnastics Center.
Throughout the course of the event, members of the team showcased skills on all four events. It was the team's first opportunity to showcase its progress from fall workouts.
"I was really excited about the fan turnout today," said Georgia head coach Danna Durante. "I was also really excited about that athletes got to show the things that they've been doing and some new skills. There were a lot of great things that we saw today, and it's always so great to be in front of our fans and give our freshmen their first shot at being in front of our fans and being in a competition-type setting."
The Gymdogs went in Olympic order, starting on vault, then heading to bars, beam and floor, respectively. Gymnasts were able to demonstrate skills while coaches explained scoring and technique to fans.
While demonstrating beam, it was announced that senior and Athens native Morgan Reynolds will assume the responsibilities of the moonwalk, a tradition passed down through generations of Georgia gymnasts.
"It's awesome to be chosen to do the moonwalk," said Reynolds. "It's an honor because it's such a long tradition. My old teammate (at Georgia Elite) Lindsey (Cheek) had it, and for me to have it now is really cool."
The Gymdogs now have six weeks to prep for their next public showcase, Sneak Peek, on Friday, December 16 at 6 p.m.
