A Quick Chat With ... Nick Chubb

Nick Chubb needs no introduction. The Georgia running back became a star in 2014 as a true freshman and has been the subject of countless interviews and articles in the past few years.
The 5-foot-10, 228-pound junior, the SEC Freshman of the Year in 2014 and already fifth on Georgia's illustrious all-time rushing list with 2,900 yards, isn't the most animated or energetic interview subject — he's no Jeb Blazevich (Blazevich Q&A) or Lorenzo Carter (Carter Q&A) — but Chubb sometimes says a lot with only a few words.
Following Wednesday's practice, the Cedartown, Ga., native sat down for a quick chat about being funny, comic books, playing with fellow junior star running back Sony Michel and much more. Here's some of what he had to say:
Frierson: I've been doing these interviews for a couple of years and one of the questions I always ask is, who's the funniest guy on the team? And your name comes up a lot.
Chubb: (Smiles) Really?
Frierson: Does that surprise you?
Chubb: That's pretty surprising, honestly.
Frierson: Why do you think they think you're so funny? I've heard you have kind of a dry sense of humor.
Chubb: I'm not really funny, I'm just kind of goofy and just kind of sarcastic with everybody.
Frierson: How are you goofy?
Chubb: (Laughs) I just do stuff, like mess with people all the time. I don't know how to explain it.
Frierson: What's something you're into that people would probably be surprised by? Is there a movie you love that people wouldn't expect or a song?
Chubb: I'm big into heroes and comics and stuff like that.
Frierson: In terms of reading or watching all the movies that are coming out these days?
Chubb: Both, more DC Comics and stuff like that.
Frierson: Because you've become such a high-profile athlete in the last couple of years, who is someone you've gotten to meet and gotten to know that stands out to you?
Chubb: I've talked to [Georgia and Carolina Panthers legend] Thomas Davis a bit, about knee surgery. Also [former Georgia tailback] Robert Edwards, I've talked to him a lot and he's a good guy.
Frierson: If you could have one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Chubb: I'm a simple guy, so I'd probably get the Big Mac meal at McDonald's. A large.
Frierson: That's it?
Chubb: That's it.
Frierson: What's the most creative thing you do? Or what's something creative you wish you could do?
Chubb: I wish I was kind of an artist or something like that, but I have pretty bad penmanship — can't keep it steady. But I admire people that off the top of their heads can just draw something. That's amazing to me.
Frierson: If you could go back and talk to your 18-year-old self that was just arriving at Georgia, what would you tell him?
Chubb: I would probably tell him to relax a little bit. I came in here stressed out, always worried about everything, so just relax and play ball.
Frierson: Does it surprise you just how much time has passed in your Georgia career already?
Chubb: Yeah, I remember at the beginning of the season now, going into my junior year, I was thinking back to when I was a freshman and [Todd Gurley] and [Keith Marshall] were here as juniors and now I'm looking at me and [Sony Michel] and we're juniors. Now those guys have been gone for a year or two and time flies.
Frierson: How much fun has been having Sony here with you. You're both obviously great players and you've been able to go through all of this together and share this experience?
Chubb: It's wonderful having him here. We came here at the same time, we live together and we see each other every day. It's just fun being a running back and having a guy next to you that can do it all.
Frierson: What's something from your childhood that you really miss?
Chubb: Probably just my friends, just hanging out with my friends back home. Not really having any kind of responsibility and just living life.
Frierson: OK, last one. Who do you think is the funniest person on the team?
Chubb: I've got a top three, but I'll give you one.
Frierson: You can certainly name all three if you want.
Chubb: Chuks Amaechi, Shaquery Wilson and Caleeb Roberson. Isaiah McKenzie is pretty funny, too. He's kind of like brutal funny; it shouldn't be funny but it is. (Laughs)
