Dachs, Donovan Shine In Tough Loss At LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. --- Double-doubles from Amanda Dachs and Meghan Donovan gave the Georgia volleyball team (13-13, 1-12) strong efforts in Baton Rouge, but wouldn't be enough, as the Bulldogs fell 3-2 to the LSU Tigers (8-16, 3-10) on Friday night.
The close match ended in favor of the Tigers after set scores of 25-22, 21-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-10.
Dachs posted her third double-double of the year and ninth of her career with 16 kills and 13 digs while Donovan dished out 52 assists and 12 digs on the way to her eighth double-double of her freshman season. Maddie Lobenstein tabbed a team-high 19 kills while Kendall Kazor also had a double-digit kill effort with 11.
Defensively, Kazor had a career-high eight blocks, as Georgia outblocked its opponent for the 13th time this year with a 13-8 advantage over the Tigers. Cassidy Anderson added 20 digs, giving her three games during this campaign to reach the 20-dig plateau.
The game's opening set started close, as the frame consisted of nine tied scores and a lead no larger than three points. Despite six kills from Dachs, the Tigers came back late to earn the 25-22 win.
The Tigers looked to have set two wrapped up, ahead 19-15 at a Georgia timeout. However, out of the break, Georgia closed it to 19-18 with a kill from Anna Kate Karstens and ace from Desiree McCray before using a 6-0 run under the serve of Lobenstein to win 25-21.
After the intermission, Georgia again had to climb back before taking the 25-23 victory. Another 6-0 spree helped the Bulldogs rally, as Kazor had two of her five kills of the set in the run.
The fourth set started Georgia's way, but turned to the home team after a 7-0 run put the Tigers ahead for good toward a 25-20 win. In the fifth, the teams traded points early, but after a challenge review from LSU turned a 5-5 stalemate into a 6-4 Tiger lead, the momentum swung toward LSU's way en route to the deciding 15-10 win.
