ATHENS, Ga. --- The University of Georgia Equestrian team will host a "Pink Meet" against UT Martin on Saturday in honor of breast cancer awareness month.
"I'm really excited, I think this is the first time we have ever done a meet dedicated to breast cancer," said junior, Horsemanship rider Bailey Anderson. "It is a little personal for me because my mom and grandmother are both survivors of this cancer. My mom just recently beat breast cancer, so I am really excited to do something in their honor."
Riders competing in Saturday's meet will have the opportunity to dedicate their ride to someone they know who has been affected by breast cancer. The team is also setting up a banner with cut out dawg bones for fans and riders alike to write the name of loved ones who have been impacted.
"We are all going to wear pink tie-dye tee shirts on Saturday, and all of our horses will be sporting the pink breast cancer awareness ribbon on their saddle pads," said Anderson. "The announcer will also be giving out quick tidbit facts throughout the meet, which will hopefully bring more awareness to this cancer."
This meets is the home opener for the Bulldogs as they host the Skyhawks of Tennessee Martin at 10 a.m. Georgia is currently ranked third in the NCEA poll after dropping a 9-8 loss to South Carolina in Blythewood, SC on Oct. 9.
Admission is free at the UGA Equestrian Complex is free.
