Auburn Takes Down Georgia 3-1

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia volleyball team (12-5, 0-4) fell in a close 3-1 match against Auburn (8-9, 2-2) on Sunday at the Ramsey Center.
The Tigers took the wins by scores of 25-13, 25-19, 16-25 and 25-20. Auburn held the slight edge with a .290 hitting clip to Georgia's .234, as 58 total kills lifted the Tigers to the win.
Meghan Donovan put up 30 assists in the match to go with eight digs, five kills and four blocks. Maddie Lobenstein and Desiree McCray led the offense with nine kills each while Kendall Kazor wasn't far behind with eight kills. Along with Donovan, McCray tabbed four blocks, as Georgia outblocked the Tigers 8-5.
Auburn's offense hit .406 in the first frame and .290 in the second on its way to a 2-0 lead. After the break, Georgia came out with its own offensive agenda, hitting .478 with Lobenstein guiding the attack, notching four kills on six attempts while McCray added a pair of aces in the set win.
Georgia had a late surge in the fourth frame after falling behind early. Down 24-17, Georgia capitalized on two Auburn miscues before a kill from Lobenstein and block from McCray and Donovan forced the Tigers to call a break at 24-20. A block from the Tigers in the next play, though, sealed the match for the visitors.
The Bulldogs head to South Carolina next, taking on the Gamecocks on Friday for a 7 p.m. ET contest featured on SEC Network. The team will then host LSU on Sunday for its annual match at Stegeman Coliseum.
