UGA Launches 'The Georgia Way' Student-Athlete Website

January 06, 2016 | General

Jan. 6, 2016 ATHENS -- The University of Georgia Athletic Association is proud to introduce "The Georgia Way" -- www.TheGeorgiaWay.com -- a new website that showcases the student-athlete experience at UGA. This website is slated to launch on Wednesday, January 6th.

The website will be a multi-faceted resource center for current, past and prospective UGA student-athletes, as well as for the entire Bulldog Nation. The Georgia Way encompasses the many ways in which UGA strives to enrich and empower its student-athletes.

www.TheGeorgiaWay.com has been several months in the making, a project that was assembled by a team of Athletic Association administrators devoted to Student-Athlete Wellness. Deputy Director of Athletics Carla Williams oversaw the building of www.TheGeorgiaWay.com.

"We are constantly looking for ways to enhance the lives of our student-athletes," Williams said. "This website offers a centralized, comprehensive resource for current and former student-athletes."

www.TheGeorgiaWay.com focuses on different aspects of Student-Athlete Wellness: Academics, Alumni Relations, Career Development, Community Outreach, Leadership Development and Personal Development.

One special feature within the Career Development section will be the "Life After Athletics" video series, which will highlight former student-athletes and their post-college endeavors. The goal of the alumni videos is to ease current student-athletes' apprehensions about the transition post-athletics and continue to build the foundation for a strong UGA alumni student-athlete network.

Additional highlights of the website include: a Community Outreach section that chronicles the many and varied ways in which UGA student-athletes contribute to the local and regional community; and the Leadership Development page that features the different opportunities for UGA student-athletes to grow and foster their leadership skills.

The UGA Athletic Association is excited about the new efforts aimed at helping further our student-athletes in their transition from sport to the professional world. It is the desire of the UGA Athletic Association to prepare its student-athletes not just for the playing field, but also for their life after they leave Athens.

"This is a priority with the athletic association and our administration," said UGA Athletics Director of Student Development Leigh Futch, who oversaw the website's construction. "We see the importance of helping the student-athletes while they are at UGA, but it is just as important for us to ensure they are taken care of afterwards. Our goal is to create exceptional experiences for a lifetime. We're working on changing the mindset of the student-athlete and ultimately, how career development is approached. With help from the Bulldog Nation, we are confident that we can make a significant impact in the lives of our current and former student-athletes."

TheGeorgiaWay.com will also be available via direct link from www.georgiadogs.com, the official website of the Georgia Bulldogs.
