Georgia Drops 3-1 Match To Georgetown

MADISON, Wis. --- In its final game of the Badger Classic, the Georgia volleyball team (4-5) dropped a 3-1 decision to Georgetown (3-5) on Friday afternoon, falling by close scores of 22-25, 23-25, 29-27 and 26-28.
Playing in front of her hometown crowd, sophomore Maddie Lobenstein tallied a career-high 17 kills, hitting .378 for the match. Redshirt sophomore Amanda Dachs put down 13 kills while redshirt junior Megan Spencer added nine kills. Kendall Kazor totaled 45 assists, a career best for the sophomore, guiding Georgia to total 59 kills against the Hoyas.
Defensively, sophomore Cassidy Anderson had her first 20-dig game of her career with 20 in the contest. Dachs finished with 10 digs, putting together her third double-double effort of the season. At the net, redshirt junior Desiree McCray and Spencer led the team with seven blocks, a new career high for Spencer.
For the first set, Georgetown used a .237 hitting mark on it way to an opening 25-22 final score. Lobenstein hit the court hard in the second frame, leading Georgia with seven kills in the set. Tied at 15 apiece, Lobenstein notched five of Georgia's next eight points before the Hoyas took the 25-23 win.
In the third set, Georgia hit a match-best .300, grinding out a 29-27 victory. Holding set point at 24-21, the Bulldogs allowed Georgetown to knot it up at 24 each and again at point 25. With the teams tied at 26, a Devan Porter kill followed by a Hoya attack error and a McCray-Kazor block forced a fourth set.
Georgia looked to have a handle on the fourth set, as kills from Spencer and Lobenstein set the score at 17-13 for Georgia. Georgetown came back to take over the lead and have match point at 24-21, but the Bulldogs kept fighting, as the arms of Spencer and Lobenstein came through to tie it at 24 each. With a Bulldogs' set point at 26-25, the Hoyas rattled off the next three points for the 28-26 win.
The Bulldogs stay on the road next weekend, playing in the Demon Deacon Classic. After taking on host Wake Forest on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. ET, Georgia faces Hofstra and VCU on Saturday, Sept. 19 to close its final regular-season tournament.
