Van Landeghem Claims Two Golds At Pan Am Games

TORONTO --- Georgia's Chantal Van Landeghem won two gold medals in record-setting fashion for Canada at the Pan Am Games on Tuesday at the CIBC Aquatics Centre and Field House.

Van Landeghem, a rising senior who is a native of Winnipeg, first won the women's 100-meter freestyle. She stopped the clock in 53.83, breaking the Pan Am Games mark of 53.85 set earlier in the day by Natalie Coughlin. Van Landeghem also became the first Canadian woman to break 54 seconds in the event. Former Lady Bulldog Amanda Weir came in eighth in 55.73.

Van Landeghem then anchored Canada's 4x100-meter freestyle that took first in 3:36.80, breaking the Games mark of 3:37.28 set earlier in the day by the Americans. Former Lady Bulldogs Allison Schmitt and Weir made up half of the United States squad that finished second in 3:37.01.

Rising sophomore Kylie Stewart placed third in the consolation final of the women's 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:14.64. Rising senior Ty Stewart took sixth in the B final of the men's 200-meter butterfly in 2:02.59.
