ATHENS-----Georgia defeated No. 20 Arkansas 10-1 on Thursday in front of 2,200 fans at Foley Field to move one step closer to clinching an SEC Tournament berth. The Bulldogs can now clinch a spot with a win on Friday or Saturday against the Razorbacks, or a Tennessee loss.

Starter David Sosebee (4-3) pitched seven innings of one-run ball and third baseman Mitchell Webb went 2-3 with a double and three RBIs to help Georgia (26-26, 10-17 SEC) extend its win streak to four games.

"David Sosebee came out and gave us exactly what we needed, a quality start," head coach Scott Stricklin said. "He went seven innings and just kept them off balance, threw a lot of strikes, got the slider working and had some strikeouts. We played great defense behind him and had clutch hitting, two-out hitting...All around it was a really complete effort by the guys."

The Bulldogs capitalized on two errors by the Razorbacks in the first inning to jump out to a four-run lead behind RBI singles by Brandon Stephens, Trey Logan and Webb. Georgia tacked on one more in the second when Jared Walsh doubled in Stephen Wrenn. Wrenn had previously reached on an error and stolen his 26th base of the season, the most by a Bulldog since Chaz Lytle set the school record with 31 in 2002.

Arkansas was able to push across a run in the fifth inning, but that totaled the run support for Razorback starter Trey Killian (2-4), who was charged with the loss.

Georgia erased any doubt with a five-run seventh inning. Leftfielder Keegan McGovern (2-5, 2B, 2 runs) began the inning with a double before coming around to score on a single by Daniel Nichols. Following a two-RBI double by Webb to make it 8-1, Arkansas' Carson Shaddy threw the ball into left field during a rundown allowing two more Bulldogs to score.

Sosebee's line -- one earned run on six hits, a walk and seven strikeouts across seven innings -- was more than enough to hold off the Razorbacks. Taylor Hicks and Austin Wallace combined to pitch two scoreless innings to finish off the game.

Georgia and Arkansas will face off in game two of the series on Friday night at 7 p.m. The game will be available on SEC Network+ and the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network from IMG.
