Georgia And Tech Clash In Annual Spring Classic At Turner Field

ATHENS-----For the 13th consecutive year, Georgia (24-26) battles Ga. Tech (32-18) at Turner Field in the Kauffman Tire Spring Baseball Classic for Kids. Fox Sports South will televise Tuesday's game live at 7 p.m. Georgia holds an 8-4 edge in the all-time series at Turner Field. Tech is the home team this year, and they are 1-0 versus the Bulldogs this season, posting a 13-6 win in Athens on March 31. The April 14th meeting on Tech's campus was rained out. Last year, Tech won 2-0 at Turner Field in front of 21,310. In records dating back to 1950. Georgia leads the overall series 115-101.
All proceeds benefit Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. More than 20,000 tickets are sold annually to this game at Turner Field making it one of the nation's largest college baseball games each year. The record attendance for the Kauffman Tire Spring Baseball Classic for Kids is 28,836, set May 11, 2004 (a 12-5 Tech win).

Georgia's top pitcher this season has been two-way standout senior Jared Walsh. He is 4-2 with a 2.86 ERA in 13 appearances including seven starts while batting .306-3-21 in 39 games including 37 starts as either a DH/1B/OF. He hit a game-tying home run to start the ninth in an eventual 6-1 series-clinching win in 10 innings at Kentucky last Sunday. Also, he batted .417 (5-12 with 3 walks) in the series. Walsh will get the start Tuesday against Tech as part of a staff night that will likely feature Mike Mancuso, Taylor Hicks, Bo Tucker, Zach Waters and Jared Cheek. Georgia Tech will employ a staff night on the mound as well starting with junior right-hander Cole Pitts (0-5, 6.98 ERA).

Fans can purchase individual tickets at the gate on game day for $12 each. Parking will be $5 each for cars and $35 each for buses in the lots directly across the street from Turner Field.

Georgia Closes SEC Regular Season With Arkansas
On Thursday at 7:05 p.m., the Bulldogs begin their final SEC series of the regular season against 20th-ranked Arkansas (30-19, 15-11 SEC) at Foley Field, and all three games will be on SEC Network+. Georgia is batting .269 with 39 home runs with 56 stolen bases. The Bulldogs have a 4.03 ERA and are fielding .972. The Razorbacks have a midweek game with Creighton before coming to town. They feature the projected SEC Player of the Year in sophomore outfielder Andrew Benintendi who leads the league batting at .407 and among the national leaders in home runs with 16. The Razorbacks are batting .292 with 44 home runs and 43 stolen bases while they have a 4.24 ERA and a .979 fielding percentage.
The Bulldogs went 2-1 this past weekend in a road series with Kentucky, dropping the opener 6-2 and then roaring back to take the series with a 12-3 win on Saturday and a 6-1 comeback in 10 innings on Sunday. Georgia hit .328 with four home runs against the Wildcats and did not make an error in the series. The bullpen tossed 11.1 scoreless innings, highlighted by four innings apiece by senior Jared Cheek (2-2, 2.61 ERA, 6 Saves) for a win Saturday and junior Sean McLaughlin (4-5, 4.96 ERA) for a victory on Sunday. Cheek ranks among the SEC leaders with 22 appearances.
Bulldog sophomore centerfielder Stephen Wrenn (.327-8-27) has reached base safely in 48 of 50 games this season. He is one of the top defensive centerfielders in the SEC and ranks among the SEC leaders in stolen bases with 23. In the UK series, Wrenn batted .400 (6-for-15) with his team-leading eighth home run. Freshman Mitchell Webb started all three games at third base and hit .418 with perfect fielding while freshman Trey Logan did the same at second base, batting .231 and was perfect in 17 total chances.
