HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. --- The Georgia women's golf team carded a 311 in second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club on Saturday, putting the Bulldogs in 16th place in the team field at 614.
"We're learning a lot about ourselves and we played better than our score indicated today," head coach Josh Brewer said. "Sammi and Isabella put up the kind of numbers that we need them to. We've got to find those third, fourth and fifth scores. We're close to putting up a good team number. I hope it comes tomorrow but if not it will come at the Liz Murphey. We're working hard and getting better."
Sophomore Sammi Lee's 76 was Georgia's best round of the day. Rounding out the Bulldogs' counting tallies were a pair of 76s from Harang Lee and Isabella Skinner, as well as an 81 by Sylvie Brick.
On the individual leaderboard, Sammi Lee is tied for 40th at 151, Skinner is tied for 45th at 152, Harang Lee and Manuela Carbajo Ré are both tied for 66th at 156 and Brick is 87th at 165.
On Friday, the Bulldogs turned at 18-over and played their final holes at 1-over. Georgia was one shot better at the halfway point of Saturday's round but was 10-over en route to the clubhouse.
No. 6 Duke posted a 1-under 283 to move atop the team leaderboard. The Blue Devils have covered 36 holes at 8-over 576, a shot better than No. 8 LSU. Duke's Leona Maguire played a large role in the team's red number. Individually, she shot 6-under 65 and is the individual leader at 4-under 138. LSU's Madelene Sagstrom is one shot off the pace.
The Rucker Intercollegiate features a stacked field of seven top-10 and 12 top-20 teams. Live scoring during Sunday's final round will be available at www.golfstat.com.
