Soccer Moves Up In Rankings Again
September 30, 2014 | Soccer
ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia soccer team continued its climb in the national rankings this week, rising two spots to No. 20 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll. The NSCAA poll is recognized by the NCAA as the official ranking system for women’s soccer.
Georgia (7-2-1, 2-1-1 SEC) earned a split weekend last time out, narrowly falling 2-1 to then-No. 7 Florida on Friday night in Gainesville before defeating No. 14 South Carolina 1-0 Sunday afternoon in Columbia – the Bulldogs’ second top-20 win of the season.
The Bulldogs are No. 21 in this week’s TopDrawerSoccer.com, Soccer America, and BennettRank polls.
Additionally, Georgia sits at No. 17 in the latest NCAA RPI report. RPI is one of the tools used by the selection committee to determine the 64-team field for the NCAA Tournament, ranking teams based on wins and losses as well as strength of schedule.
The Bulldogs are back in action this weekend, hosting Tennessee Friday night at 7 p.m. before traveling to face Mississippi State on Sunday afternoon with kickoff set for 2 p.m. ET in Starkville.
