Montgomery Advances To Quarterfinals Of Cajun Classic

LAFAYETTE, La.----Georgia freshman Wayne Montgomery won two matches to advance to the quarterfinals of the Cajun Classic Thursday at the Cajun Courts.
Bulldog junior Nick Wood won his first match and led Oklahoma State's Edgar Lopez, 6-4, 5-2, in the second set when rain suspended the match. It will resume Friday at 10 a.m. ET.
Montgomery, who is off to a 7-0 start this season, first defeated Damien Farinola of Louisiana-Lafayette, then downed Oklahoma State's Nathan Roper, 6-0, 6-0.
Nathan Pasha was edged in his first round match by LSU's Tam Trink, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Due to dehydration and cramping, Pasha was forced to withdraw from his consolation match, but the senior from Atlanta is scheduled to play in the first round of doubles action Friday afternoon.
Junior Ben Wagland won his opening match, 6-1, 6-2 against UL-Lafayette's Vlad Kramarov, then fell to Oklahoma State's Lucas Gerch in the round of 16, 7-5, 6-2.
"Overall it was a good day," said head coach Manuel Diaz. "Wayne won two matches, and Nick is off to a good start. I thought Nathan was playing well in the first set, but his opponent raised his level of play and was deserving of the win.
"Ben competed well, and I believe he is showing progress toward getting his confidence back to where it needs to be and fighting the way he needs to. Hopefully we can continue to improve as we move forward."
Following the completion of the suspended singles matches, first round doubles matches will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, followed by the second round at 3:30 p.m.
