Georgia Remains 13th At Cougar Classic
September 15, 2014 | Women's Golf
Sept. 15, 2014
Freshman Isabella Skinner carded a 1-over 73 to lead the Bulldogs, who also counted a 74 from Amira Alexander, a 75 from Manuela Carbajo Ré and a 76 from Rocio Sanchez Lobato while dropping Harang Lee's 77.
"It was a good round of golf by Bella today," head coach Josh Brewer said. "I know it's only the third round of her career, but she continues to show a lot of potential and progress. She has been patient and steady throughout qualifying and that has helped her in tournaments.
"Everyone played pretty solid today," Brewer added. "We certainly have the ability to go out tomorrow and post a very good team score. It wouldn't shock me if everyone posts a score around par and one of two people shoot under par. We've done that pretty much all fall in qualifying."
Georgia teed off from holes No. 10-12 with Monday's shotgun start. The Bulldogs were 9-over as a team when all five golfers completed hole No. 18 but then played the front nine at 1-over.
Skinner teed off from No. 11 and bogeyed that hole, No. 14 and No. 16 to fall to 3-over at her "turn." She birdied No. 5 but gave that stroke back with a bogey at No. 6. Skinner then birdied No. 6 and notched another red number at No. 10 to close out her round.
Overall, Alexander is tied for 19th at 144, Sanchez Lobato is tied for 50th at 144, Skinner is tied for 58th at 150, Carbajo Ré is tied for 64th at 151 and Lee is tied for 89th at 155.
Arkansas surged to the team lead following a 4-under 284. The Razorbacks are a 9-under, two shots better than both Wake Forest and UCLA. Wake Forest's Sierra Sims remains atop the individual leaderboard at 11-under, a three-stroke edge over Augusta James of N.C. State and Bronte Law of UCLA.
Tuesday's final round will again feature a 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, with live scoring updated on a three-hole basis at www.golfstat.com.
