Bulldog Cross Country Wins Three Of Four SEC Weekly Awards

Freshmen Tayler Tuttle and Bryan Kamau swept the SEC Freshman of the Week honors while junior Steven Spevacek was named the SEC Men's Runner of the Week after the Georgia Cross Country Invitational in Bishop, Ga., on Sept. 6.
Tuttle, a Snellville, Ga., native, opened her collegiate career by winning the Lady Bulldogs' one and only home meet thanks to her 5K time of 18:14.80. She shot past Georgia Tech senior Katie Townsend in the final 150 meters to capture the individual victory and helped UGA sweep Georgia Tech and Mercer.
Kamau, also a Snellville native, ran in his first college meet and took sixth overall in the 8K race with a time of 26:16.74. He was the third Bulldog across the finish line to score and the second overall freshman to finish.
Spevacek, a Lawrenceville, Ga., native, grabbed the top finish for Georgia and took second overall thanks to a time of 26:07.87. This was a nine-place improvement from Stevacek's 2013 finish at the meet as the Parkview High School graduate serves as a fourth-year leader for the 2014 Bulldogs.
Georgia returns to action at the Furman Invitational in Greenville, S.C., on Sept. 13. The women's 6K is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Furman Golf Course while the gun is expected to fire for the men's 8K at 9:15 a.m.
