ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. --- The Georgia men's golf team slipped to fifth place after the second round of the Southeastern Conference Championship at Sea Island's Seaside Course.

On Saturday, the sixth-ranked Bulldogs fired a 4-over 284 -- as each counting score was a 1-over 71 -- and moved to 1-over 561 for the tournament. No. 1 Alabama shot a 14-under 266 and has a 17-shot lead over South Carolina and Auburn heading into the final round.

"It was a day of missed opportunities for us," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "We didn't putt very well. We missed a lot of putts on a day when we had to make a few to keep pace with what Alabama was doing. We've still got (Sunday) and we're going to go out there in a positive frame of mind and try to get hot with the putter and make a lot of birdies."

Seniors Michael Cromie and Joey Garber, sophomore Lee McCoy and freshman Greyson Sigg all signed for 1-over 71s on Saturday. Senior Keith Mitchell had the Bulldogs' non-counting score of 5-over 75.

Cromie is eighth individually at 1-under 139. Alabama's Bobby Wyatt, on the strength of an SEC-record 9-under 61 on Saturday, leads by eight shots at 14-under 126. Garber and Sigg are 15th at even-par 140, while McCoy moved to 2-over 142 and Mitchell went to 6-over 146.

The SEC Championship will conclude on Sunday as the Bulldogs tee off at 8:20 a.m. Three-hole scoring can be found at Golfstat.com.
