CONYERS, Ga. --- The Georgia soccer team closed its spring season on a high note, defeating in-state rival Georgia State 1-0 Thursday night in neutral-site action in Conyers. The Bulldogs got a first-half goal from rising sophomore Taylor Donohue off a volley, and held on for the shutout victory.
"I thought this was a great way to finish our spring season," said head coach Steve Holeman. "We made a lot of progress, and many players got some valuable experience. Our schedule played out perfectly in helping us achieve our spring goals."
The Bulldogs finished the campaign at 5-2, including a signature win over perennial NCAA Tournament participant Wake Forest. Georgia is coming off a 12-7-1 record last fall, going 5-5-1 in conference play and reaching the quarterfinals of the SEC Championships.
Holeman - entering his fifth season at the helm - has announced a 12-member incoming class ranked No. 10 in the nation and No. 3 in the SEC. Three of those players are already on campus and competing with the team, including Colorado native Becca Rasmussen - who tallied six assists for Georgia this spring and is currently training with the U.S. U-20 National Team in California. The incoming group will bolster a returning roster of three seniors, six juniors, and 15 sophomores for the 2014 season.
The Bulldogs have not yet released their 2014 schedule.
