Soccer To Embark On 1,000-Hour Challenge
December 08, 2014 | Soccer
ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia soccer team is ready to log some serious community service hours as a group over the next several months as the team embarks on the '1,000-Hour Challenge.'
The challenge averages out to approximately 25 hours per player and staff member, and the Bulldogs have set a goal of reaching the 1,000-hour mark by the end of the spring semester.
"There are so many people in the community who look up to our players as role models," said assistant coach Stefani Workman. "The girls have an understanding of that, and know that they need to give back in any way they can."
So far, the team's efforts have included a pajama drive for Barrow Elementary School in Athens, food drives over the Thanksgiving holiday, a holiday party for underprivileged children, and fostering puppies looking for a forever home.
Community organizations interested in enlisting the help of the Georgia soccer team should email Hallie Briggs at hbriggs@sports.uga.edu.
