Diaz, Wagland Remain Unbeaten At Bulldog Scramble

ATHENS——Georgia senior Eric Diaz and junior Ben Wagland each won a pair of matches Saturday to remain unbeaten through the first two days of the Bulldog Scramble held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Diaz won a pair of three-set matches, beating Kentucky's Trey Yates, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 and South Carolina's Thomas Mayronne, 1-6, 6-1, 7-6(2). Wagland won his first match against Georgia State's Felipe Jaworski, 6-1, 6-3, then he downed Louisville's Pally Ray, 6-1, 6-4.
In other action, Andy Martinez registered his second win of the year, 6-4, 6-3 against Georgia Tech's Daniel Yun, and Wayne Montgomery claimed a 7-5, 6-4 over Kentucky's No. 118 Beck Pennington. In doubles, the Bulldog tandem of Montgomery and Nick Wood opened the day with an 8-4 win over Georgia Tech's Chris Eubanks and Nathan Rakitt.
"We started the day with a great win in doubles and kept some momentum going and finished the day strong," said associate head coach Will Glenn. "Eric Diaz will be playing for the championship tomorrow, so that's great for our senior captain. Andy Martinez won today, and we're proud of the way he's competing. Ben Wagland is on a good track, so we are excited about the way the guys are playing."
The final day of the Bulldog Scramble begins Sunday at 9 a.m. with one round of doubles followed by one round of singles. There will not be a round of singles played in the afternoon.
