Bulldogs Perfect on Saturday in Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Members of the University of Georgia women's tennis team completed their second day of play at the College of Charleston Fall Classic with an unblemished record of 2-0 in doubles and a similarly perfect 5-0 mark in singles.
Pitted against the College of Charleston in doubles and Georgia State in singles, the Bulldogs did well to improve upon their day one results with a string of impressive performances at Patriots Point Tennis Center.
Junior Silvia Garcia and freshman Mariana Gould opened play for the Bulldogs on Saturday with an 8-4 win over the College of Charleston's Jenny Falcone and Katherine Schofield. Freshman Ellen Perez and sophomore Caroline Brinson then added to Georgia's success against the hosts with a hard-fought, 8-6 victory over Sarah Jane Jones and Samantha Maddox.
The focus then shifted to singles play against members of the Georgia State women's tennis team as the Bulldogs battled hard to come away with five straight victories over their in-state opponents. Garcia and Gould put in what were perhaps two of the more impressive singles performances for the Bulldogs with respective 6-0, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-2 straight-set wins over Niriantsa Rasolomalala and Kristin Rehse. Brinson, Perez, and freshman Laura Patterson were also victorious over their Panther opponents.
"Today was a great day for us," said assistant coach Drake Bernstein. "We came out and played smarter doubles and fought well in our singles."
The Bulldogs now have just one day of matches remaining on their fall schedule as they get set to conclude play at the College of Charleston Fall Classic with doubles matches against Marshall and singles matches against the College of Charleston on Sunday. Play will begin with doubles at 10 a.m.
