Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt

On today's win ...
"We talked all week about respecting this opponent and you show that respect by giving them your best shot. We did just that. Our focus was where it ought to be. The energy level was high, the execution was outstanding and we got some breaks with some turnovers. I was proud of the effort. ... We had great execution offensively and our defense didn't give them much hope all day long. The defensive coaches had a great plan and the players did a great job of executing it."

On so many players getting into the game ...
"We had some young men who had never stepped on the field before in the game. They've been working their tails off as scouts and they put in the hard work without much glory. To get in and play for the Bulldogs and to play between the hedges was a big thrill for these guys. I'm glad they got this opportunity."

On preparing for Georgia Tech ...
"It's not easy to deal with their offense and we have a new coaching staff, so it will be a new experience for these guys. It will take a lot of work, a lot of focus this week. It's a tall order for our scouts to simulate and a tall order for our defense to deal with it, but I have faith in our boys and in our coaches. ... (CSU) ran some triple option today. To stop it is assignment football. If you don't do your job, a big play can occur."

On Nick Chubb's long TD run...
"He saw something and bounced it outside and was off to the races. A couple defenders had a chance, but he kept chugging along and pulled away from them. He has good speed, and it was good enough to take it to the house today."

QB Hutson Mason

On using today's win to carry momentum into next week's matchup against Georgia Tech...
"I think this win will definitely help us carry a lot of momentum for the defense since they'll face a similar offense next week. Anytime you go out and put up a lot of points it feels good for the offense. We were just really able to get the ball rolling today and put up points."

On managing the game efficiently...
"I just go with the plays that are called. I really don't have any control over what plays are called or what personnel is in, I just try and execute with what I'm given. I'm not trying to go for big stats or anything. As long as we get it done then it feels good. I just try my best to operate and get it done with the play that's called."

FLK Chris Conley

On how the team wants to finish this season...
"There's a certain way that we want to go out and an impression that we want to make. Now we just have to go out and practice hard this week and get it done."

On the amount of players getting experience in today's game...
"It's good when you can roll a lot of guys out there, guys that don't have a lot of playing time usually. It gives them some film to watch and things to improve on. It gives our whole team a lot of extra confidence."

OLB Jordan Jenkins

On if this game can help the team get ready for Georgia Tech's option-based offense...
"I feel like some of the things [Charleston Southern] did gives us a good idea of what to expect from Tech. The fact that they came out of the shotgun so much kind of contradicts what Tech does, though. This has definitely been a good learning experience for all of the guys on defense in terms of getting hit and blocked like that."

On making impact plays in today's game...
"I was just going out and trying to make plays and get it done. The whole team was able to make plays and we played really well as a whole today."

FS Quincy Mauger

On his interception...
"I was just reading my keys and knowing where to be. Doing my assignments properly has just put me in the right position to make these kinds of plays."

On the aggressiveness of the defense this year...
"The defensive line has been getting after the opponent every week, and that really helps us. We've just been focused and very energetic going after the ball. That's something the coaches emphasize all week and we just have to go out and execute."

Charleston Southern

Charleston Southern Head Coach Jamey Chadwell

Opening Statement...
"Obviously Georgia is a great team and we didn't put up much of a fight early on. I am proud of our team for competing and continuing to fight to the end of the game. We wanted to try and get some points on the board and slow them down a little bit. I don't know if we did that or not. I am proud of our team and how they competed. We don't have quite the players that Georgia has, but it was a great experience for our team. I am appreciative of Coach Richt and Georgia for giving our guys the chance to make some memories."

On the experience for the players...
"I think that's something that a lot of people don't realize when they are talking about FBS and FCS teams playing each other. There a lot of kids who dream of playing college football at a place like Georgia. When a kid gets the chance to play at Sanford Stadium, regardless of whether they are wearing the Red and Black, it's a special feeling. I know for our guys it meant a lot because that's what you dream about doing growing up. For our guys to be able to say that they got to tackle Nick Chubb or almost have a pick on someone, those are memories that they will take with them for a long time. You can't put a price on those memories."

R-Fr. C Sean McGarity

On what it was like being back in Athens...
"It was incredible. It was something I've dreamed about since I was a kid. Just being back home in the energy of Sanford Stadium that I've experienced for however many times I've been here, it still came to life today. You still get chills when you run out on that field for the first time. Your stomach kind of drops a little bit but it's just excitement and I couldn't ask for a better experience here."

On the difference between playing on the field and cheering in the stands...
"It's a big difference because you pay attention to a lot more that's going on [when you're on the field]. It's a team you've been cheering for and now you've got to play them and cheer against them. Today was the one day I was not going to cheer for Georgia and was hoping for the best outcome. We fought hard and continued to play until the end, kind of showed our brand of football, and it was just awesome to be out there until the end."
