Soccer Surges To No. 16 In NSCAA Poll
October 07, 2014 | Soccer
ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia soccer team jumped four more spots to a season-high No. 16 ranking in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, the organization announced Tuesday. The NSCAA poll is recognized by the NCAA as the official ranking system for women's soccer.
The Bulldogs (9-2-1, 4-1-1 SEC) are coming off a weekend sweep of Tennessee and Mississippi State last time out, winners of three straight SEC games and currently standing at No. 20 in the RPI - one of the tools used by the selection committee to determine the 64-team field for the NCAA Tournament, ranking teams based on wins and losses as well as strength of schedule. Through three weeks of conference play, the Bulldogs are in sole possession of second place in the league standings behind only fifth-ranked Florida.
The No. 16 national ranking marks Georgia's highest since coming in at No. 15 on Sept. 15, 2009. It is the highest ranking of head coach Steve Holeman's tenure.
Georgia also stands at No. 16 in this week's Soccer America poll, No. 18 according to BennettRank, and No. 20 on TopDrawerSocer.com.
The Bulldogs are paced by sophomore Gabby Seiler's eight-goal, eight-assist effort for a team-leading 24 points, already good for 10th all-time in UGA history through only 12 games. Sophomore Marion Crowder has six goals and one assist for 13 points, while Rachel Garcia (12) and Kelsey Killean (11) are also in double-digit points on the year. A total of 18 Georgia players have registered at least one point. Freshman goalkeeper Louise Hogrell has played all 1,105 minutes for the Bulldogs this season, logging 39 saves and five shutouts.
The Bulldogs are off this weekend, and will return to action at home Oct. 17-19 against Missouri and LSU.
