October 17, 2014 | Soccer
ATHENS, Ga. --- Six members of the Georgia soccer team have been singled out for their accomplishments through the first half of the season by landing on TopDrawerSoccer.com's Midseason National and Freshman Top-100 lists, the site announced Friday.
Sophomore midfielder Gabby Seiler is ranked the No. 40 player in the nation, while five Bulldog rookies made the Freshman list, including goalkeeper Louise Hogrell (46), forward Kelsey Killean (51), defender Mariel Gutierrez (68), midfielder Becca Rasmussen (73), and midfielder Shayna Raekelboom (97).
Seiler leads the Bulldogs with eight goals and eight assists for 24 points, with her assist total already good for third all-time for a single season and her point total standing 10th. Her 2.00 points-per-game average ranks first in the Southeastern Conference, while she has already broken UGA school records this season for consecutive games with a goal (5) and a point (9).
Hogrell has helped Georgia record five shutouts on the season, posting a 0.81 goals against average and 39 saves, stopping nearly eight of every 10 shots sent her way. She has earned two SEC weekly honors so far this season - once named the conference's Rookie of the Week and once the Defensive Player of the Week.
Killean has scored three goals on the year to go along with five assists for 11 points, with the biggest moment of her young career coming on the road at South Carolina as she netted the game-winner late in the first half to eventually lift the Bulldogs to the 1-0 victory over the Gamecocks.
Gutierrez has been steady for Georgia at left back, coming in after playing for the Mexico U-20 National Team in this summer's Women's World Cup in Canada.
Rasmussen has two assists to her name, spending time at both midfield and forward this season.
Raekelboom has emerged as one of Georgia's first subs off the bench, coming in as a steady presence in the midfield and tallying one assist.
The Bulldogs return to action tonight, hosting Missouri at the UGA Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m. Georgia is also home against LSU this Sunday at 3 p.m., with that game set to air on ESPNU.
