Romano Snares Two Bronze Medals At World University Games

KAZAN, Russia --- Megan Romano earned two bronze medals as the swimming portion of the World University Games concluded on Tuesday.

Romano, who completed her eligibility in March by leading Georgia to the NCAA title, came in third in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 24.98. Romano also anchored the United States' 4x100-meter freestyle relay, which placed third after stopping the clock in 4:02.71.

Romano finished the World University Games with six medals (one gold, two silver and three bronze).

Also on Tuesday, Brittany MacLean, a rising sophomore representing Canada, came in fourth in the 400-meter freestyle in 4:08.95.

Romano and MacLean will now move on to the FINA World Championships, which will begin Saturday and go through Aug. 4 in Barcelona, Spain. Others from the Georgia program competing in Barcelona include Chase Kalisz, Andrew Gemmell, Nic Fink, Shannon Vreeland and Jordan Mattern of the United States; Chantal Van Landeghem of Canada; Martin Grodzki of Germany; Matias Koski of Finland; Ediz Yildirimer of Turkey; and Troy Prinsloo of South Africa.
