Kalisz Becomes Fifth Bulldog To Reach World Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Chase Kalisz became the fifth swimmer with ties to the Georgia program to advance to the FINA World Championships on Thursday at the USA Swimming Phillips 66 National Championships.

Kalisz, a rising sophomore, won the men's 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:11.83. He finished 2.79 seconds ahead of runner-up Tyler Clary.

Kalisz, rising senior Andrew Gemmell (5-kilometer), rising senior Shannon Vreeland (200-meter freestyle, 4x100-meter freestyle relay), former Lady Bulldog Megan Romano (4x200-meter freestyle) and rising junior Jordan Mattern (4x100-meter freestyle relay) will represent the United States in the FINA World Championships, which will take place July 28-Aug. 4 in Barcelona, Spain.

Also on Thursday, rising junior Nic Fink was sixth in the men's 50-meter backstroke (28.03) and rising junior Amber McDermott came in eighth in the women's 400-meter freestyle (4:50.06),
