ATHENS, Ga.--University of Georgia's Silvia Garcia has been named the women's tennis SEC Freshman of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

Garcia propelled the then sixth-ranked Bulldogs to the semifinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Tournament this past weekend. A native of Madrid, Spain, she went 3-0 in both singles and doubles. Garcia posted her first victory over a ranked opponent in singles when she defeated 109th-ranked Lynn Chi of California. Alongside partner Kate Fuller, the duo dropped a total of only seven games in their three wins at No. 1 doubles, which included a victory over UCLA's 16th-ranked Skylar Morton and Robin Anderson.

The Fuller/Garcia tandem is now ranked 13th nationally. They are 7-0 overall with three victories coming over ranked opponents. Garcia made her debut in the national singles rankings this week coming in at No. 100. She is currently 8-1 on the year.

The Bulldogs (5-1) will return to action on February 23rd at home against in-state rival and 22nd-ranked Georgia Tech (2-2). The match is set to begin at noon ET.
