ATLANTA— The No. 8 University of Georgia softball team (21-4, 2-1 SEC) took a hard-fought 2-0 loss at Georgia Tech (16-12, 0-3 ACC) Wednesday night.

Sophomore Morgan Montemayor (8-3) took the loss coming in as a reliever as she gave up two runs, none earned, on no hits while walking three. Junior Tess Sito started the game as she allowed one hit and no walks in four innings of work. Tech's Hope Rush (10-7) earned the win after she gave up two hits in her complete game.

Georgia totaled two hits in the game, as junior Christine Olney hit a double in the second and freshman Anna Swafford put up a single in the fifth. The Bulldogs defense kept Tech at bay for most of the game, as they allowed one hit in the game.

After five scoreless innings, the Yellow Jackets put up two runs in the sixth that started with a Chelsie Thomas walk. A Georgia miscue after Ashley Thomas bunted down the third base line allowed C. Thomas to score. Kate Kuzma's groundout to second advanced A. Thomas to third before Alysha Rudnik scored A. Thomas to seal the 2-0 victory.

Georgia returns home this weekend for a three-game series with No. 18 Auburn starting on Friday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m.
