Sarah Persinger Named SEC Freshman Of The Week

ATHENS-----Georgia gymnast Sarah Persinger has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week for her performances in the Gym Dogs' two wins last weekend, it was announced Tuesday.

Persinger scored a 39.350 in her first career all-around to lead Georgia to a 196.575-195.300 win at Michigan on Friday. She recorded season-highs on vault (9.9) and floor (9.875) against the Wolverines, then surpassed her mark on floor with a 9.9 Sunday against NC State. The Mount Holly, N.C., native added a pair of 9.825s on vault and beam to help the Gym Dogs post their second-highest total of the season.

Persinger has been a mainstay in the vault, beam and floor lineup throughout her freshman campaign and is one of the team's first alternates on bars. She and the Gym Dogs will return to action March 24 at the SEC Championship in Duluth, Ga.
