ATHENS-----Following a 196.825-195.875 win over then-No. 3 Arkansas last Friday, the Georgia gymnastics team returned to No. 4 in the GymInfo Top 25.
Utah remained at the No. 1 spot with a 196.855 average, followed by Florida (196.833), Oklahoma (196.696), Georgia (196.642), Arkansas (196.554), Alabama (196.540), UCLA (196.504), Oregon State (196.305), Nebraska (196.200) and Penn State (195.988) to round out the top-10.
The Gym Dogs have already faced three of the top six teams and still have upcoming meets against Nos. 2 and 7. Georgia's schedule was ranked the toughest in the country in the preseason.
In the team event rankings, Georgia is fourth on beam (49.158), fifth on bars (49.204), eighth on vault (49.213) and No. 9 on floor (49.067).
Individually, Kat Ding's 39.550 in the all-around Friday night moved her into a tie for first nationally, and she is sixth on vault (9.904) and 10th on bars (9.867). Junior Shayla Worley moved up to fourth on beam with a 9.833 average, and senior Gina Nuccio is ranked sixth on bars (9.879). Noel Couch is ranked 24th in the all-around with a 39.163.
All rankings will be based on average scores for the next two weeks. Then beginning Feb. 27, rankings will be based on a team's Regional Qualifying Score, which uses the six best regular season scores, of which three must be away. To obtain the RQS, the high score is eliminated and the remaining five are averaged.
Georgia (4-2, 3-1 SEC) will face Kentucky Saturday at 4 p.m. at Stegeman Coliseum. Tickets are available at www.georgiadogs.com or by calling the UGA Ticket Office at 706-542-1231.
