STANFORD, Calif. --- The No. 11-ranked Georgia women's golf team completed its fall campaign with an 11th-place finish at the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice on Sunday. Senior Emilie Burger and freshman Manuela Carbajo Ré led the Bulldogs with 12th place individual efforts.
Georgia shot 9-over 293 on the par-71 Stanford Golf Course on Sunday and finished the 54-hole event at 29-over 881.
Freshmen provided the Bulldogs' two low scores on Sunday, 1-under 70 from Carbajo Ré and a 1-over 72 from Kailey Walsh. Georgia also counted Burger's 75 and Collins Bradshaw's 76.
"Kailey again put up another solid round and Manuela finished strong," head coach Josh Brewer said. "Those are two solid positives. As a team, we've got some things to work on to continue our progress and get ready for February. We will take a little bit of a break to catch up academically and rest up a bit."
No. 3 Southern Cal finished at 5-over 857 and captured the team title by four shots over No. 2 Washington. Trailing the Huskies were Stanford at 868, No. 1 Arizona at 869, No. 13 Vanderbilt at 873, No. 7 Arizona State at 874, No. 15 Oklahoma State at 877, UCLA and Oregon State at 879, No. 4 UC Davis at 881 and Georgia at 881.
Kyung Kim completed the sweep for USC by claiming medalist honors at 7-under 206, three shots better than SooBin Kim of Washington. For Georgia, Burger and Carbajo Ré finished at 3-over 216, while Walsh tied for 36th at 222, Bradshaw tied for 69th at 230 and Rocio Sanchez Lobato finished 79th at 234.
"Individually, we've seen what everyone is capable of," Brewer sadi. "We have the ability, but it's going to take more than just a couple of people playing well. We'll try to continue to figure out how to make that happen. We did beat some teams this fall that we haven't beaten in a while and that's a positive, but we have lofty goals and expectations. We will continue to work on the plan we've had in place for 10 weeks now. We're getting better, there's no doubt about that, and hopefully we'll show that one day soon."
Georgia's next tournament will the FSU Mash Up Invitational on Feb. 15-17. The 2012-13 golf campaign will culminate with the Bulldogs hosting the NCAA Championships at the UGA Golf Course on May 21-24.
