AUSTIN, Texas --- The No. 1-ranked Georgia women's swimming and diving team dropped a 155-145 decision to No. 4 Texas on Saturday at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 5-1 on the year, snapping a streak of 18 straight dual-meet wins dating back to 2010.

In the men's meet, No. 2 Texas defeated No. 9 Georgia 160-125. The Bulldogs are now 3-2-1 on the season.

The Lady Bulldogs swept the backstroke events as Kristen Shickora won the 100 in 53.96 and Kelsey Gaid took the 200 in 1:58.26. Wendy Trott claimed the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 9:45.41. Amber McDermott touched first in the 500 freestyle in 4:45.82. Lauren Harrington won the 100 butterfly in 54.72. Melanie Margalis had a time of 4:12.97 to win the 400 individual medley. Ann-Perry Blank won the 1-meter springboard with 280.35 points. The Lady Bulldogs concluded the meet with the 400 freestyle relay team of Jordan Mattern, Shannon Vreeland, Margalis and Megan Romano touching first in 3:21.84.

In the men's meet, the Bulldogs got victories from Martin Grodzki in the 500 freestyle (4:26.48) and Andrew Gemmell in the 400 individual medley (3:58.18).

"It was a good women's meet, but we're disappointed because we thought we had a chance of winning," Georgia coach Jack Bauerle said. "We had some close races, and if any of them go our way, we've got a good chance. The kids raced hard, but we could have done better in spots. We just came up short. We're pretty good, but we're not great. We need to get better. Our guys were just outmanned by Texas. They've got one of the top two or three teams in the country with a great shot at winning it all. We were led by our distance guys, all of whom did a great job. Overall, it was a hard-fought meet. We'll get back to work. We all need to get a little better. This meet got our attention. We were not as sharp as I'd like for us to be, but we'll be better the next time around."

Georgia's teams are idle until Jan. 20 when they will entertain South Carolina. The Lady Bulldogs will be trying to win their 77th straight home event, which would set the school record for all sports. Georgia also will entertain Tennessee on Jan. 21.
