ATHENS, Ga. --- University of Georgia junior goalkeeper Ashley Baker has been named to the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Women's Scholar second team for the All-South Region, the NSCAA announced Friday.
Baker was previously named second team CoSIDA Academic All-District for her performance in the classroom in 2011, to go along with third team All-South Region honors with another standout year in goal.
The Lilburn native and Recreation & Leisure Studies major started all 22 games for the Bulldogs in 2011, logging over 2,000 minutes while putting up six shutouts, making 96 saves, and posting a 1.20 goals-against average. She was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 5 after a stellar weekend helped Georgia capture the Minnesota Gold Classic title.
On Dec. 17 Baker learned she was included on the 'long list' from which the British Olympic Association will select the 2012 Great Britain Olympic soccer team roster. The games are set to take place in London this summer, with the soccer portion running from July 25-Aug. 9.
