ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia senior Torrin Lawrence and freshman Morgann Leleux have received weekly Southeastern Conference honors following their performances at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky., according to a league announcement.
Lawrence was named the SEC Men's Runner of the Week while Leleux, competing in her first collegiate meet, was honored as the SEC Women's Freshman of the Week.
Lawrence, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., clocked his top indoor 200-meter dash time since 2010 after registering a 21.18 for the win to highlight three victories over the weekend. His time is the fourth-fastest mark in the nation this year and is the fastest time in the world this year on an oversized track.
Lawrence also sped to a win in the 60 with a time of 6.76, which tied the second-fastest finish of his career. He time was only a hundredth of a second from equaling his personal best in the event, which is No. 3 all-time in the Bulldog record books. Lawrence completed his sweep by anchoring the winning 4x400 relay team, which featured two freshmen, as Georgia clocked a 3:12.22.
Leleux, a native of New Iberia, La., debuted for the Lady Bulldogs by clearing the pole vault bar at 13 feet, 8 ¼ inches. This mark equaled her indoor personal best and gave her a second-place finish to outdoor collegiate record holder Tina Sutej (14-3.25) from Arkansas.
Leleux has the nation's best jump for freshmen and No. 6 overall as she shot to fifth on Georgia's all-time top-10 list in the first meet of her career. She is also the sixth-ranked American on the IAAF's world performance list.
Georgia returns to action at the newly opened Birmingham Crossplex facility for the Auburn Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Results and recaps from both days will be located at georgiadogs.com.
