ATHENS, Ga. --- Atlanta native Casey Kay enrolled in the University of Georgia a semester early to get his student-athlete career going. In this edition of the Georgia tennis Q&A, Kay discusses why he chose to attend UGA and much more.
Georgiadogs.com: You just got to Athens this week. You've been here before, obviously, but what are your impressions of stepping onto campus for the first time knowing you're officially a UGA student-athlete?
Casey Kay: It was a great feeling, almost surreal. After I moved in I realized that this was it. I am finally here and I will be playing for one of the top teams in the nation.
GD: Why did you decide to come to Georgia?
CK: I decided to come to Georgia because of the great coaches, players, and facilities. It was one of those decisions that just felt right. I had some other schools that I liked, but nothing gave the same feeling as UGA.
GD: How did you get started playing tennis?
CK: I started playing tennis when I was 7 or 8 years old. I did camps in my neighborhood in Alpharetta with my brother and sister. Everything just took off after that.
GD: What does it mean to you to be a Georgia Bulldog?
CK: It means a lot to be a Georgia Bulldog. There is a great tradition at the University and I am proud to be apart of it.
GD: What's something people don't know about you?
CK: Something that many people don't know about me is that I have a twin sister that also plays tennis. She is going to the University of North Carolina next fall.
GD: Have you met Coach Magill yet?
CK: Yes, I met him at a banquet that was held for the 1999 and 2001 National Championship teams.
GD: What do you do in your free time besides tennis?
CK: In my free time I enjoy hanging out with the team and my friends, watching sports.
GD: What are you most excited about for the upcoming season? What are your expectations?
CK: I am redshirting this semester so I will not be traveling with the team, but there is still a lot to look forward to. I am expecting to improve on the court since I will be working on the court with some of the best coaches in the country, and physically I will be in great shape because I know nobody is going to out-work the Bulldogs this year.
