ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia swimmer Wendy Trott has been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America Women's At-Large First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The Women's At-Large Team includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo.
Trott is a three-time NCAA champion in the 1,650 freestyle — only the fifth woman in NCAA history to accomplish that feat. She also is a three-time SEC winner in the 1,650 freestyle and helped the Lady Bulldogs win conference team titles in 2010 and 2011. The Capetown, South Africa, native is a Presidential Scholar and is a member of the UGA Student-Athlete Leadership Academy. She previously has been chosen for the College Swimming Coaches Association of America All-Academic Team as well as the SEC and Georgia Academic Honor Rolls. Trott is majoring in International Affairs.
"Wendy is a driven young woman, both in and out of the pool," Georgia coach Jack Bauerle said. "She demands excellence of herself, and she's not afraid of the hard work it takes to make it happen. We could not be prouder of Wendy for this recognition. She really deserves it."
Earlier this week, Georgia's Bill Cregar and Mark Dylla were named to the Academic All-America Men's At-Large Second Team.
