ATHENS, Ga.-----Georgia senior Cameron Ellis has been named a regional co-winner of the Arthur Ashe Award for Sportsmanship and Leadership, the Intercollegiate Association (ITA) announced Friday.

Ellis along with Florida State's Federica Suess are the Southeast Regional winners and are now up for the national award which will be announced May 24 during the NCAA Championships in Palo Alto, California.

Ellis, a three-time All-Southeastern Conference selection, is going through commencement exercises today after earning a degree in marketing. She has already been accepted in to the UGA master's program in journalism. In 2010, she was the recipient of the ITA/Cissie Leary National Award for Sportsmanship.

On Saturday, she will lead the eighth-ranked Bulldogs in the first round of the NCAA Championships. The Bulldogs (16-4) are the No. 8 overall seed and will play host to Marist at noon. Ellis has been a part of four teams that have advanced to the NCAA Championships including the 2009 squad that advanced to the Final Four and finished No. 3 nationally.

Ellis is closing in on the school record for combined wins. She needs just two more victories to tie the mark of 222 held by Bulldog Naoko Ueshima who concluded her career in 2010. Currently ranked No. 86, she owns the top singles record this season at 28-6. Ellis is 22-10 overall in doubles.

"Cameron has been an absolute joy to coach, and it's been exciting to see her develop in her four years at the University of Georgia," said Bulldog head coach Jeff Wallace. "She has had an inspiring career and a fantastic senior season that has been her best one at UGA. She earned a national ranking in singles and doubles this year while serving as captain and the team's lone senior. Cameron has provided strength and leadership and served as an example of how to make the best of what comes your way in life."
