ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia women's tennis freshman Kate Fuller has been named to the 2011 SEC Community Service Team, the league office announced Tuesday.
The Southeastern Conference sponsors community service teams for all 20 of its sponsored sports. The teams highlight student-athletes around the league who give back to their communities in superior service efforts.
Fuller's work off the tennis court has led to her being selected to the Dean William Tate Honor Society, which is the most prestigious honor a UGA freshman may receive and is based on leadership, scholarship and service. It is a four-year commitment with an annual service project and spring philanthropy. Fuller is the UGA Tennis representative on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C) that works with UGAA, conference administrators, campus personnel and coaches on issues relating to rules governance, student-athlete welfare and community service. She is a member of UGA Team United and participates in meetings, Bible studies and activities with campus ministries.
Fuller, a native of Suwanee, Ga., is a pre-business major at Georgia and key part of the Bulldogs who are currently 15-3 and ranked ninth nationally. She is 17-9 in singles and is nationally ranked 10th in doubles with Chelsey Gullickson. They are 13-4 as a tandem and Fuller is 21-11 overall in doubles.
Fuller and the Bulldogs head to Knoxville, Tenn., as the No. 3 seed in this week's SEC Championships on the University of Tennessee campus. Georgia has a first round bye as a top four seed. The Bulldogs will be in action Friday at 3 p.m. in the quarterfinals versus the winner of the Arkansas/Auburn first-round match.
