Georgia Golfers Climb To 10th In San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The No. 20-ranked Georgia women's golf team shot 304 in the second round of the Battle of Rancho Bernardo on Monday, moving the Bulldogs up to 10th on the team leaderboard.

Marta Silva Zamora fired an even-par 72 and ascended 30 positions in the individual standings, The Bulldogs also counted a 73 from Emilie Burger, a 78 from Abby Johnson and an 81 from Kiara Hayashida, while dropping Milena Savich's 83.

"We're still not quite firing on all cylinders," head coach Kelley Hester said. "We had to count another big number today. I fee like we're headed in the right direction. We just can't have two people play poorly on the same day. It's encouraging that we were just one score away from having a pretty good round."

The Bulldogs teed off from No. 10 and played the back half of the layout first. Silva Zamora turned at 1-over after a birdie at No. 13 and bogeys at No. 14 and No. 16. She carded eight straight pars on the front side before finishing with a birdie at No. 9.

No.7 Purdue moved atop the team leaderboard after shooting a 4-over 292. The Boilermakers are at 587 and lead No. 1 Southern Cal by three shots. Rounding out the top-10 teams are No. 3 UCLA at 5974, No. 18 UC Davis at 601, No. 8 Arizona at 605, UNLV at 607, Texas at 609, No. 22 Auburn at 612, No. 9 Arizona State at 613 and the Bulldogs at 614.

Purdue's Laura Gonzalez is the individual leader at 3-under 141, a shot better than UNLV's Therese Koelbaek. For Georgia, Silva Zamora is tied for 12th at 149, Johnson is tied for 36th at 154, Burger is tied for 52nd at 156, Savich is tied for 65th at 160, Hayashida is tied for 69th at 161 and Tess Fordham, who is competing individually, is tied for 79th at 163.
