SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The No. 20 Georgia women's golf team shot 310 in the opening round of the inaugural Battle at Rancho Bernardo on Sunday. The Bulldogs are in 13th place at the Rancho Bernardo Inn Championship Course.
Abby Johnson led Georgia with a 4-over 76, with the Bulldogs also counting a pair of 77s from Milena Savich and Marta Silva Zamora and an 80 by Kiara Hayashida. Emilie Burger's 83 was the drop score, and Tess Fordham, who is competing as an individual, shot 85.
"Abby had a good day but everyone else struggled," head coach Kelley Hester said. "It's rare for both Burger and Marta to struggle on the same day. Kiara did a nice job with her putter at times, which is encouraging."
No. 3 UCLA shot 5-over 293 to secure a one-shot lead over No. 18 UC Davis.
Individually, Arizona State's Guilia Molinaro carded the best round of the day, a 3-under 69. She leads Laura Gonzalez of Purdue by a stroke.
For Georgia, Johnson is tied for 34th, Savich and Silva Zamora are tied for 43rd, Hayashida is tied for 66th, Burger is tied for 80th and Fordham is tied for 87th.
