Georgia Fails To Field Team At Kinderlou

VALDOSTA, Ga. --- The stomach ailment that severely hindered the Georgia women's golf team in the first two rounds of the Kinderlou Forest Challenge finally got the best of the Bulldogs on Tuesday. Marta Silva Zamora and Milena Savich were forced to withdraw from competition before the final round, leaving Georgia without enough golfers to field a team score.

"Milena definitely couldn't have gone today," head coach Kelley Hester said. "Marta didn't have anything in her tank at all. She somehow was able to get through yesterday but hasn't been able to eat much in two days. I've never had anything even close to this happen before. Officially, we had four individuals in the golf tournament. What are you going to do? Obviously, it's not what we were looking for. I think the girls were scared they were going to get sick, too."

The Bulldogs' remaining three golfers still competed, with Tess Fordham shooting a 76, Abby Johnson carding a 79 and Emilie Burger posting an 80. Kiara Hayashida, who competed as an individual, shot 76.

Overall, Burger finished tied for 26th at 231, Fordham tied for 47th at 235, Hayashida tied for 39th at 238 and Johnson tied for 54th at 240.

Chattanooga shot 2-under 290 on the par-73 layout to overtake first- and second-round leader Coastal Carolina and claim the team title. The Mocs finished at 896, nine shots better than the Chantacleers.

Augusta State's Casey Kennedy won individual medalist honors after finishing the 54-hole event at 1-under 218, a stroke better than Chattanooga's Yushira Budhram.

The Bulldogs will return to action in three weeks when they travel to the inaugural Battle at Rancho Bernardo at the Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Resort in San Diego.
