ATHENS-----The 11th-ranked Georgia men's tennis team earned its fourth shutout of the season with a 7-0 win over East Tennessee State Wednesday at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Facility.

Bulldog freshman Hernus Pieters picked up his second match clincher of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Charles Bottoni at No. 4 to help Georgia (5-1) improve to 5-0 at home.

"I thought this was a lot closer than the score, especially the first four on the court," said Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz. "East Tennessee State is a talented team and they are going to have a good year. They have played some of the top-ranked teams in the country. Now our focus turns to Georgia Tech. It will be a good match there, and we have a couple of days to prepare and head to Atlanta."

For the third time this season Georgia won all three doubles matches and took a 1-0 lead. Drake Bernstein and Wil Spencer remained perfect in dual matches with an 8-2 win at No. 2, then Garrett Brasseaux and Ignacio Taboada teamed up for the first time to clinch the point with an 8-5 win at No. 3. At No. 1, 14th-ranked Javier Garrapiz and Hernus Pieters downed Grega Teraz and Charles Bottoni, 8-5.

In singles, Spencer notched his 20th win of the season with a 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 73 Jesus Bandres at No. 2 to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0.

Garrapiz extended Georgia's lead to 3-0 at No. 1 where he won the final 11 games in a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Sander Gille, setting the stage for Pieters to clinch at No. 4.

The Bulldogs then closed out the match with wins by Bernstein, Taboada and Campbell Johnson at Nos. 4, 5 and 6, respectively. Bernstein, who rallied to win in three sets, is now three wins away from reaching 100 for his career. Taboada improved to 16-4 on the season, while Johnson improved to 15-8.

Georgia won 12 out of 13 sets in singles matches against ETSU (1-4).

The Bulldogs will travel to Atlanta to face rival and 21st-ranked Georgia Tech Saturday at 1 p.m. Live scoring and the Georgia Tennis Live Chat will be available at www.georgiadogs.com.
