Short-Handed Georgia Golfers Slip To 10th

VALDOSTA, Ga. --- Playing with only four golfers for the second consecutive day, the No. 12-ranked Georgia slipped from fourth to 10th at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge following Monday's second round. The Bulldogs carded a 28-over 320.

"Obviously, the girls are disappointed," head coach Kelley Hester said. "On top of only have four, it was really windy today. It was a day of adversity all around, and we didn't handle the adversity the way we needed to. You either learn from it or you don't. My hope is that we learned from it, and when we have more adversity down the road we'll be able to handle it better."

Milena Savich, who fell ill with a stomach ailment early in Sunday's opening round, withdrew from Monday's round as well, meaning Georgia competed without the luxury of a drop score.

"We left Milena at the hotel and didn't even bring her to the golf course," Hester said.

Emilie Burger led Georgia with a 2-over 75 on the par-73 layout. The Bulldogs' remaining scores were a pair of 80s from Marta Silva Zamora and Tess Fordham and an 85 from Abby Johnson. Kiara Hayashida, who is competing as an individual, shot an 80.

Silva Zamora, who had the same illness beginning on Friday, shot her worst score of the season by four strokes.

"Marta played with a lot of character," Hester said. "It was all she could do to finish."

Coastal Carolina remained atop the team leaderboard after shooting a 5-over 297. The Chantacleers are at 16-over 600 entering Tuesday's final round and possess a six-stroke lead over both Chattanooga and Florida State.

There's a three-way tie atop the individual leaderboard at even-par 146 including Georgia's State's Charlotte Guilleux, Augusta State's Casey Kennedy and Furman's Laura Weam.

For Georgia, Burger is tied for 15th at 151, Silva Zamora is tied for 26th at 155, Fordham is tied for 43rd at 159, Johnson is tied for 53rd at 161 and Hayashida is tied for 59th at 162.

Play concludes on Tuesday, with three-hole updates of live scoring available at www.golfstat.com.
