ATHENS, Ga. --- Following a 2-1 performance at the ITA National Indoors this past weekend in Seattle, the Georgia men’s tennis team climbed four spots to No. 12 in the Feb. 22 edition of the ITA team poll – one that experienced a great deal of shuffling. No new singles or doubles rankings were released.
The Bulldogs defeated then-No. 12 Louisville 4-1 on Saturday and then-No. 7 Stanford 4-2 on Sunday to improve to 7-3 on the season.
The biggest changes toward the top portion of the poll included Southern Cal’s fall from No. 2 to No. 9 this week following three losses at the National Indoors, while Duke jumped all the way from No. 17 to No. 6 after defeating the Trojans as well as Florida out on the West Coast. Team champion Virginia remained No. 1 this week and Tennessee – which fell 4-0 to the Cavaliers in yesterday’s final – jumped from No. 3 to No. 2. Ohio State, Texas, and UCLA round out the top five.
Georgia will return home to host Furman this Sat., Feb. 26 at 2:30 p.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex – marking the outdoor opener for the Bulldogs as long as weather permits.
