Former Bulldog Jack Bush Passes Away

ATHENS, Ga. --- Former University of Georgia offensive lineman Jack Bush passed away Tuesday in Athens.
Bush lettered for the Bulldogs from 1946 through 1948 under Coach Wally Butts. In that time, Georgia went 27-6-1 capturing the 1946 Williamson national championship and SEC title during Bush's first year in Athens. Bush was also a member of the 1948 SEC championship team.
Born in Irwin County, Georgia, Bush finished high school in Jacksonville, Florida. Following graduation, he enrolled at the University of Florida in the winter quarter of 1942 where he lettered in basketball as a freshman. Bush transferred to Georgia and served on the practice squad for the 1942 Rose Bowl champions.
After a stint with the Marines from 1943 to 1946, Bush returned to Athens where he earned All-SEC third team honors and helped lead the Bulldogs to an undefeated season in his sophomore campaign of 1946.
After playing at Georgia, Bush spent time in Jacksonville running several auto dealerships before retiring to Athens.
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 17, from 5-7 p.m. at Bernstein Funeral Home, 3195 Atlanta Highway in Athens. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 18, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church in Athens.
