Christmas came early for the University of Georgia student-athletes, as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) spread the holiday cheer with a social event and fundraiser that took place over Tuesday and Wednesday.
On Tuesday the SAAC hosted a Holiday Social for the student-athletes at the Coliseum Training Facility. The night let the Bulldogs take a break from preparing for final exams and enjoy pizza, play video games and take pictures with Santa Claus, more commonly known as Georgia tight end Aron White. The event also gave student-athletes the chance to give back by donating gifts to Toys for Tots.
The giving continued on Wednesday, as a group of student-athletes went to Barrow Elementary School in Athens to present a check for those families that need it as the holidays approach.
"This year we asked each student-athlete to donate $1, so each of the SAAC reps went to their teams and asked their teammates to donate $1 to the fund," swimmer Chelsea Nauta said. "With roughly 600 athletes, we raised $900, so it was a really good turnout this year."
"It's really important to us," Barrow Principal Dr. Ellen Sabatini said on Georgia's involvement with the school. "We really rely on our community partners to help educate our students, and UGA Athletic Association has been a partner for a long time. They have always reached out to our school and community. It's always important to make sure our kids have the things that they need to succeed in school."
